The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced that it will start lifting Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from the Dangote Refinery on September 15, 2024. This information was shared during an interview on the TVC News program “Journalists’ Hangout.”
NNPCL’s Timeline and Expectations
In a statement made by NNPCL spokesperson Olufemi Soneye, Adedapo Segun, the Executive Vice President of Downstream, emphasized their anticipation of the September 15 timeline. This timeline comes from the Lagos-based refinery, which has a production capacity of 650,000 barrels per day.
Addressing Fuel Scarcity
Moreover, Segun’s announcement comes amidst ongoing fuel scarcity across the nation. This issue has persisted despite recent price hikes. He assured the public that NNPCL is working closely with marketers. Their goal is to facilitate extended hours of operation for fuel stations. Thus, stations will operate early in the morning and late into the night. This initiative aims to maintain a consistent fuel supply for Nigerians.
Collaborative Efforts to Ensure Supply
In addition, Segun stated that NNPCL is engaging relevant authorities. This collaboration aims to prevent product diversions and guarantee timely deliveries to all fuel stations across the country. He expressed optimism that the scarcity would begin to ease within the next few days. As more stations adjust their operations, they will better meet public demand.
Clarifying Recent Claims
It is important to note that the Dangote Refinery recently denied claims that NNPCL had already started lifting petrol. This clarification comes shortly after Aliko Dangote, the President of the Dangote Group, announced that the refinery has officially commenced production.
Overall, the combined efforts and anticipated new supply from the Dangote Refinery could significantly alleviate the current fuel challenges faced in Nigeria.
