The Ejigbo Satellite Depot of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has requested that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd. (NNPCL) provide the same opportunity for IPMAN to buy fuel at the regulated depot price of N148.17 per litre, as was given to the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN).
The Chairman of IPMAN Ejigbo Depot, Mr Akin Akinrinade, appealed to the NNPCL to provide equal opportunities for IPMAN members to purchase fuel at the regulated depot price while addressing the media on the issue of price disparities for petrol at depot locations.
Akinrinade wondered why private depots get petrol from NNPCL at official rate of N148. 17 per litre but sell at N220 per liter ex-depot price to IPMAN. Mr. Akinrinade gave the NNPCL a seven-day ultimatum to create a concrete plan for IPMAN members to purchase fuel at the regulated price of N148.17 per litre. He said that lPMAN had an agreement with NNPCL on fuel supply but has refused to adhere to the agreement.
The chairman explained that the lack of equal opportunities for IPMAN to purchase fuel at the regulated depot price has led to an increase in petrol prices at IPMAN stations. As a result, members are selling petrol for N250 per litre or more in order to stay in business.
Akinrinade stated that IPMAN is requesting fair competition and pointed out that the current competition is unfair. He also mentioned that IPMAN members are losing customers because they cannot sell petrol at the same price as MOMAN members.
“In the interim, NNPC should make arrangement for IPMAN to load through the private depot.
That is what they are doing for NNPC retail and we should be treated equally.
“If government can no longer subsidise the product, then let them deregulate so that we are all at the same level.
“We can no longer put these pains on Nigerians so we are saying enough is enough and the arrangement should be made for things to go back to status quo or we will react,” he said. The non-uniformity of depot prices for retailers has increased prices of PMS in IPMAN retailed stations. It does not affect the prices of AGO/MGO
